One of Maryland athletics’ biggest donors is sending another $15 million to athletic director Jim Smith.

According to a press release from the university, the money will primarily fund a new, state-of-the-art golf performance center on the university campus. Some of it will also go towards the expansion of the Stephen M. Schanwald Sports Management Program.

Investing in the future of Maryland ⛳️🐢@SteveMSchanwald ’77 has committed $15 million to support a new state-of-the-art golf performance center and the continued growth of the Schanwald Sports Management Program.

The golf center and a wing of Van Munching Hall, the home of Maryland’s business school, will be named after Schanwald, who previously donated $18 million to the university in 2024.

Last year, Emil Riegger became Maryland men’s golf’s first All-American since 1995.

The efforts to improve those programs will continue with a new performance center, the finalized plans for which are expected to be done next year.
