The stars from the Mount Mansfield Union High School girls basketball team's 2026 Division I championship, Aly Dorman and Maysa Long, announced their college basketball commitments this month on social media. Dorman is staying local for college, earning a spot Vermont women's basketball roster while Long is heading to Minnesota to play for a Division II powerhouse. Aly Dorman earns roster spot at the University of Vermont Dorman announced her commitment to the Vermont women's basketball team in a post on her Instagram on Thursday, Aug. 13. Dorman earned a walk-on spot with the Catamounts. She will be following in the footsteps of Vermonters such as Catherine Gilwee, Kylie Atwood, Kelli Hier, Jennifer Niebling and others to represent their home state program. "Playing at UVM has always been the dream," Dorman said. "It always seemed so unreal and I love the program ... and it's a D-I opportunity." Dorman already has experience lighting up Patrick Gym, exploding for 34 points in the Cougars dramatic 62-60 comeback win over Rutland in the 2026 D-I girls basketball championship game. Dorman hit the game-winning jumper sealing Mount Mansfield's first title after the Cougars trailed by as many as 22 points. Her play in the D-I final helped raise her profile along with her performance with Blueprint AAU this summer where she impressed the Catamounts' coaching staff. Dorman is determined to earn minutes playing for her hometown team. "Staying home was really the selling factor for me because my family can watch," Dorman said. "I'm really hoping to show what I got and earn the playing time I hope I can get." The senior earned a spot on the Free Press' all-state first team after averaging 14.9 points, 4.5 steals, 4.5 assists, 3.8 rebounds per game. Dorman is also a key player on the Cougars' field hockey team where she earned 2025 Free Press' all-state second team honors. Maysa Long commits to Minnesota State women's basketball Long was born in Mankato, Minnesota and now is heading back home after announcing her commitment to Minnesota State in an Instagram post on Wednesday, Aug. 5. Minnesota State is a D-II power having won the 2024 national championship. Last season the Mavericks finished with a 29-3 record.
