VERMILLION, S.D. (KELO) — The quarterback battle is still underway in Vermillion.
Austyn Modrzewski is taking most of the No. 1 reps, as he did in the intrasquad scrimmage on Sunday morning, but the redshirt freshman has yet to officially be named starting signal caller. Head coach Matt Vitzthum says Modrzewski, Jackson Proctor, and Nevan Cremascoli have all had really strong ends to camp and now its time to evaluate the little things that make up a successful QB.
“Just that total command and consistency, right,” Vitzthum said after the scrimmage. “Who can command and elevate the guys around him and who can be the most consistent right? I know a guy may look good for a drive or two but we’re going to need him to play a whole football game. We’re going to play a full season.”
Vitzthum says the plan is to settle into a decision around nine or ten days out from game one.
