Happy Monday, everybody. Hope your weeks have gotten off to a great start.
It’s time for the usual review of the Miami Hurricanes-related tidbits floating around in my mind.
1) The Miami Hurricanes are ranked No. 7 in the preseason AP Top 25 Poll.

As they were also ranked No. 7 by the coaches, that makes them the consensus No. 7 team in the nation.
I feel like that’s a little bit low, to be honest. Maybe that’s crazy to say, given it’s their highest preseason ranking in over 20 years (2004). I suppose I shouldn’t complain about it, particularly since this is just a preseason ranking. I just feel like this is a top five program. This team has a very high ceiling and the talent level to reach it.
And frankly, while the CFP rankings are what matter, don’t tell me the polls don’t have some place for creating expectation for those rankings down the road.
In any event, on to more relevant things.
2) The Canes dismissed Cam Vaughn from the team on Monday.
Mario Cristobal gave that info out on Monday, along with an update on Jordan Lyle, who was recently arrested on charges of reckless driving and eluding police, per multiple outlets.

Don’t know what Vaughn did, but the Hurricanes won’t get hit too hard by the West Virginia transfer’s departure. Behind Mali and Barkate, the Canes have Daylyn Upshaw, Vandrevius Jacobs, Joshua Moore, and others waiting in the wings. The room is deep and talented. Best of luck to Cam.
As for Lyle, as Cristobal said, they’ll play it by ear on how the investigation goes, but Miami is still super talented and deep in their running back room as well. We move.
3) I don’t know if y’all saw, but there’s been PLENTY of love for Miami’s trench bullies on both sides of the ball so far this preseason.
Behold:
Rookie OG Anez Cooper was the team’s highest-graded offensive player by PFF in preseason Week 1:

• 90.9 overall PFF grade
• 89.5 run-block grade
• 85.2 pass-block grade
• 0 pressures allowed on 20 pass-block snaps
Encouraging debut for the #Jets 6th round pick.
6x Pro Bowl OT Lane Johnson was asked about former Hurricane’s OT Markel Bell.

Now, I’m not saying this year’s crop isn’t going to ultimately be good, or perhaps even awesome. I’m saying that it might take some time to play up to the level that they delivered last year. Best of luck to all of those guys and the rest of the Pro Canes in the preseason.
Go Canes!
