Carrying a hundred thousand fans, Mumbai will soon come up with a world-class cricket stadium, with the Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis leading the initiative alongside CIDCO (City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra) and the MCA (Mumbai Cricket Association). The foundation stone for the project has been laid, and the groundwork will start soon.

The Mumbai Cricket Association president, Ajinkya Naik, has expressed that getting a massive cricketing landmark in the heartbeat of Mumbai will grow the sporting ecosystem locally. He further asserted in confidence that the stadium will have a top-notch infrastructure and also create a plethora of opportunities for players and boost the cricketing ecosystem across levels.

"This initiative marks a defining moment for Maharashtra's sporting ecosystem. A 1-lakh-capacity stadium in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region will not only elevate Mumbai cricket but also firmly position Maharashtra on the global sporting map. This world-class infrastructure will create unparalleled opportunities for player development, provide critical exposure to emerging talent, and strengthen the cricketing ecosystem across all levels," Naik said in a statement.

The stadium, proposed to boast more than 100,000 cricket fans, will not only solidify Maharashtra as a global sporting destination but will also make India the only country to have two of the biggest cricket stadiums in the world. Currently, the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad is the largest cricket stadium in the world, with a capacity to carry 132,000 fans, followed by the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Australia.

The city of Mumbai already has two active international cricket stadiums, first being the Brabourne Stadium and the other being the Wankhede Stadium, both located in Churchgate. Furthermore, there is also a Dr DY Patil Sports Academy ground in Navi Mumbai, roughly an hour off the mainland from Mumbai. As a result, the upcoming cricket stadium will become the fourth venue in the city. The location of the upcoming cricketing landmark is currently not known.
