Brooklyn Nets general manager Sean Marks is in an unique position as the Nets are still rebuilding while waiting for one of its young players to realize their potential. Brooklyn is heading into a 2026-27 NBA season where many expect to be one of the worst teams in the league, but Marks isn't changing his approach, regardless of successful teams like the New York Knicks are. "Marks, in answer to an ND question about the Knicks back on the day his team introduced its three draft picks, dismissed the possibility of having another team’s success change his thinking," NetsDaily wrote on Monday. There are many around the league who wonder how long the Nets are going to rebuild, especially when sharing the same city as a Knicks team that won the NBA title for the first time since 1973. "(As more than one NBA watcher has noted, the team governor and GM have been like “peas in a pod” when it comes to strategy.)," NetsDaily continued. Marks has been asked multiple times over the course of the past couple of seasons when he would be inclined to change his approach to the roster from patient to a sense of urgency towards winning as many games as possible. "No, not at all. I mean, we’re not, we’re not, we’re not going to be motivated or less motivated by what somebody else is doing," Marks said to the media in the aforementioned press conference after the team introduced the rookies from the 2026 NBA Draft. "I think all we control is our path. I think we set out on this a couple of years ago, and I think I’m very happy with what the group has done." This offseason, Marks and the front office made the decision to trade for Minnesota Timberwolves forward Julius Randle and add him to a team where he'll be sharing the floor with sharpshooting forward Michael Porter Jr. and young guard Egor Demin. However, fans that have been supporting the Nets since the beginning are understandably getting uneasy and are hoping for some positive results soon, but Marks is remaining steadfast for now.
