Haissem Hassan has outlined his ambitions at Celtic after completing his £6million move from Real Oviedo.

The 24-year-old winger has signed a four-year contract with the Scottish champions, who also hold the option to extend his stay by a further season.

Hassan arrives at the Hoops with experience in La Liga and at the World Cup, and the Egypt international believes the time was right to take the next major step of his career.

Speaking to Celtic’s club media following his unveiling, he said: “At 24, I think it’s a good moment for me to move away from Spain. I’ve been there for six years. With Celtic’s history, all the great players, the fans and the atmosphere, I think this is the perfect moment for me.

“I know I’m joining a big club, the biggest club in Scotland, and I’m really looking forward to taking the next step.”

Known for his ability to carry the ball, beat defenders and create chances, Hassan also offered Celtic supporters an insight into what they can expect from their new signing.

Asked to describe his style, he said: “For me, football is all about enjoyment, and my first job is to bring enjoyment to the fans who come to the stadium.

“From a football perspective, I would say I’m a skilful winger who likes one-versus-one situations and combining with my team-mates. I have a lot to improve on, but I hope I can show the best of myself.”

The move to Glasgow represents another new challenge for Hassan, who previously left his native France for Spain as a teenager.

“It was quite a challenge leaving France at 18, discovering a new country and learning a new language,” he admitted. “That’s what I want to do here as well: learn English, experience a new culture and discover a new style of football. I’m really excited about it.

“At Celtic, everything is about winning, and that’s what I want. We need to prove that we are still the best team in Scotland, qualify for the Champions League and have a good run in Europe.

“I’ve also come here to help the club win trophies, and I’m very excited about the prospect of celebrating a trophy with the supporters.”
