Newcastle United’s search for attacking reinforcements continues as Matthias Jaissle looks to reshape a squad that struggled for consistent production up front last season.

With the transfer window entering its final weeks and the Premier League campaign just days away from kicking off, a new forward could now be available for the Magpies on the market.

Newcastle has been credited with interest in Atletico Madrid striker Alexander Sorloth, and a report from Tuttomercatoweb’s Massimo Pavan says the Spanish club is prepared to consider selling the 30-year-old if an offer of around €40 million (£34.8 million) lands on the table.

“Atlético Madrid are reportedly willing to consider selling Alexander Sorloth for an offer close to €40 million, a significant sum for a 30-year-old striker, but the real question is whether the Colchoneros are willing to negotiate,” Pavan reported.

This news gives Newcastle another potential opportunity to land a forward in Sorloth, who has previously been linked with a return to England. The Norwegian spent time at Crystal Palace earlier in his career before eventually establishing himself as a prolific La Liga striker, where he’s scored 33 goals in the past two seasons combined.

Newcastle, however, would not necessarily have a clear path to a deal. Pavan reports that Juventus is monitoring Sorloth as manager Luciano Spalletti looks to add a physical center forward to the squad, although Atletico’s valuation is currently considered too high for the Italian club.

“The main issue is financial,” Pavan wrote. “The €40 million requested by Atlético represents an investment difficult to reconcile with Juventus’ current strategies, especially after the deals already concluded and considering the other necessary transfer market interventions.”

Sorloth scored 13 goals across 35 La Liga appearances last season after producing 20 league goals during his first campaign with Atletico. He added six goals in 14 Champions League outings last campaign, and his contract runs through 2028, meaning the Spanish club is under no immediate pressure to sell him.

Newcastle has already been linked with many attacking options this summer, including Chelsea’s Liam Delap and Nicolas Jackson and Manchester City’s Omar Marmoush. At €40 million (£34.8 million) and already 30 years old, however, Newcastle would still need to decide whether investing that much in Sorloth fits its ongoing rebuild and new era under manager Matthias Jaissle.

Do you think Sorloth could turn into the experienced striker Newcastle might need right now, or should the club put that money toward a younger forward or simply strengthening other positions? Share your thoughts in the comments section below!
