NFL free agent Aaron Rodgers drawing interest from Broncos as veteran QB weighs future: report

Four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers signed a one-year deal with the Steelers last offseason. At 42, he has not ruled out a 2026 return, but the team is waiting to see what comes next.

The NFL's new league year kicked off last week and the draft is just weeks away. As the Steelers continue through the offseason, a new team appears to be entering the mix to land the veteran quarterback.

The Denver Broncos are reportedly considering adding Rodgers to their roster, Pro Football Talk reported Wednesday. If Rodgers moves to Denver, he would join a quarterback room led by Bo Nix over the past two seasons.

Broncos head coach Sean Payton could target a veteran quarterback as he looks to push Denver past the AFC Championship and into NFL history books.

"Coach Sean Payton, who like any coach who has won a Super Bowl with one team is keenly aware that no coach has won a Super Bowl with two different franchises, may be tempted to roll the dice on a possible one-year upgrade (if Rodgers would truly be an upgrade) in order to finish the work the Broncos started in 2025," the outlet reported. "For Payton, the possibility of blazing a new trail for NFL coaches could be the thing that gets him to Canton."

Nix suffered an ankle injury in the AFC divisional playoff win over the Buffalo Bills. Jarrett Stidham took over for the AFC title game, which the Broncos ultimately lost to the New England Patriots.

While a timetable for Nix’s recovery remains unclear, he continues to rehab and could be cleared by training camp. Bringing in a veteran, however, would give the Broncos more options.

Rodgers has not made an official visit to the Broncos this offseason as of Wednesday.

Rodgers started in 16 games last season, throwing 24 touchdowns. He helped the Steelers end a five-season AFC North division title drought. But Pittsburgh ultimately could not break its playoff windless streak, losing to the Houston Texans in the wild-card round.

Former Ohio State standout Will Howard and NFL veteran Mason Rudolph are set to return to the Steelers quarterback room in 2026.
