The Arizona Cardinals made two additions to their starting offensive line this offseason, signing guard Isaac Seumalo to a three-year deal in free agency and tackle Elijah Wilkinson to a two-year contract.
Returning are left tackle Paris Johnson, center Hjalte Froholdt, and right guard Isaiah Adams is back after starting and ending the season as a starter last season.
They believe this unit is an improvement over last season's line, but how good will it be?
PFF ranked all 32 starting offensive lines, and the Cardinals are in the bottom third, ranking 22nd out of 32 teams.
The Cardinals should be fine on the left side of the line, with left tackle Paris Johnson Jr. earning PFF pass-blocking grades above 77.0 in each of the past two seasons and the addition of Isaac Seumalo at left guard. The former Pittsburgh Steeler has earned a PFF grade above 65.0 in every season of his career in which he has played at least 600 snaps. The right side of the line is a bigger concern, with right guard Isaiah Adams earning PFF grades below 60.0 in each of his first two seasons in the league and Elijah Wilkinson’s career-high 65.5 PFF grade coming back in 2018.
PFF's concerns match Cardinals fans' for the line. Wilkinson played every snap last season at right tackle for the Atlanta Falcons but led the league in holding penalties. Adams got benched for Will Hernandez and only returned to the lineup after Hernandez got hurt.
Adams has been praised all offseason, but that was the case last offseason as well. They lost Chase Bisontis, their second-round picks, to a season-ending knee injury after he was expected to compete for the starting job with Adams.
Who was the top-ranked line? That would be the Denver Broncos, whom the Cardinals face in Week 7.
