Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love (10) and quarterback Aaron Rodgers (12) fist bump during the third day of training camp Friday, July 30, 2021 in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Love was Rodgers' backup for three seasons (2020-22).

Jordan Love had to sit behind Aaron Rodgers for three seasons before he got a chance to serve as the full-time starting quarterback for the Green Bay Packers, and it sounds like Love is grateful for that experience.

On Thursday night, Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers are set to take on the Green Bay Packers to open the preseason for both teams. While it’s not clear whether or not Rodgers will play in the game, it will mark the final time that Rodgers has a chance to take on his former team, as he has already announced that he plans to retire at the end of the season.

As the two quarterbacks prepare for the more-emotional-than-usual preseason game, Rodgers has already shared some kind words for Green Bay. Now, Love is sharing some kind words about Rodgers.

“I’ve mentioned it time and time again: I have nothing but great things to say about A-Rod and my time being behind him and watching him, how much I was able to develop and grow in my process seeing him,” Love said, via Zach Jacobson of PackersDispatch.com. “The transition — I think for the organization, that’s something that’s never easy, and for the players, it’s not something that’s ever easy, either. For a guy that’s been here that long and done so many great things, those are big shoes to fill. For me, I try to focus on being my best and doing the best job I can for the team.”

Rodgers has been quite open about the fact that he didn’t get much help from Brett Favre when he arrived in Green Bay. Rodgers vowed to give Love a better experience when he arrived in Green Bay, and it sounds like he did.

“I’ve heard different stories, Aaron talking to me about his time coming up and how he wanted his approach with me to be different, which is great,” Love said. “But, at the same time, I’m going through my own journey. I wasn’t here to experience some of the stuff he went through, so all I got is what I know and what I saw.”

Rodgers has already expressed regret that Thursday night’s game will be in Pittsburgh, denying him one last chance to play in Green Bay. But it will be a sort of homecoming, regardless.
