DUNMORE, WV (WVNS) - A team that could be full of surprises this season is none other than the Pocahontas County Warriors.
In 2025-26, they dropped to 3-7, narrowly missing out on the playoffs. 2 of their 7 defeats were decided by a touchdown or less. Head Coach Doug Burns said they had a lot of youth during that growing season.
Heading into 2026-27, they have somewhere between 12 to 14 seniors putting it all on the line for the Warriors for the final time this season, which is more than they normally have on their roster.
“You hope that that translates into, you know, better outcomes. Guys have been in those positions on Friday nights. So, looking forward to this year,” said Coach Burns.
With an unusual amount of maturity filling out their roster, the Warriors are hoping to make some noise in the WVSSAC Class A playoffs.
Pocahontas County kicks their season off at Tucker County on August 28th.
