The New York Giants made a rather surprising move on Tuesday, signing veteran running back Najee Harris to a one-year contract.
The acquisition came after Dante Miller suffered a groin injury in the Giants' first preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings and was subsequently released.
But Harris isn't just an ordinary addition; he is a former Pro Bowler who posted four straight 1,000-yard campaigns for the Pittsburgh Steelers between 2021 and 2024.
Yes, he averaged just 3.9 yards per carry in the process, and he tore his Achilles three games into his tenure with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2025. So more than likely, Harris isn't the same player anymore, and he won't be getting starter reps for New York.
But he could sneak his way on to the roster.
The Giants currently field a backfield that consists of Cam Skattebo, Tyrone Tracy and Devin Singletary. Skattebo is the lead back, and Tracy brings enough versatility to the table where he isn't going anywhere.
Singletary, on the other hand, could be in some danger here.

Just about everyone had the 28-year-old tabbed as a cut candidate heading into the offseason, but the Giants decided to restructure his deal instead.
New York would stand to save a small sum of $1.3 million if it decided to release Singletary before the start of the regular season, but it is something, at the very least.
And let's be honest: there is really nothing unique that Singletary brings to the table for Big Blue.
Harris, at the very least, is a 6-foot-1, 242-pound wrecking ball who could be utilized in short-yardage or goal-line situations ... or just to give Skattebo a break. Tracy is a great receiver out of the backfield and is an explosive runner in space.
Singletary was a decent player for the Buffalo Bills and Houston Texans, but he has been a massive disappointment in his first two seasons with the Giants. Was it Brian Daboll and the coaching staff? Perhaps, but it's not like Singletary was ever a stalwart.
New York probably isn't keeping four halfbacks. One of them will have to go, and I actually have a hard time believing it will be Harris given his track record.
Singletary appeared safe a couple of weeks ago, but with Harris now in the fold, it's entirely possible that the Giants could cut ties with the former.
