Preseason football gets underway for the Green Bay Packers in Pittsburgh. The Packers open the preseason against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday, Aug. 13 at Acrisure Stadium, the first of three exhibition games over the next three weeks. Packers quarterback Jordan Love is expected to start the game just as he did in the preseason opener the last three years since becoming the starter. He tore a ligament in his left thumb in the first preseason game last year, an injury that kept him out of practices for about a week. On the other side, there's a good chance Aaron Rodgers plays as well for Mike McCarthy's Steelers. the 2026 season will be Rodgers' last in his Hall of Fame career. The former Packers quarterback was "bummed" the preseason game wasn't at Lambeau Field in Green Bay. The preseason opener will be the first opportunity for the rookies to play under the lights in a real-game setting for the first time in the NFL. This includes Packers kicker Trey Smack, who has had an uneven start to his training camp after the Packers selected him in the sixth round of the NFL Draft. The job is Smack's after the Packers moved on from their kickers from last season. Will he seize the opportunity or will his training camp miscues carry over into game action and make general manager Brian Gutekunst get more kickers into Green Bay?
