The Carolina Panthers are going to have an interesting backfield this upcoming season, with Chuba Hubbard and Jonathan Brooks expected to split time for Carolina. But prior to the first preseason game after the Hall of Fame game, the Panthers got some bad news about Hubbard amid a new injury issue. As Mike Kaye of ESPN reports, Hubbard has a hamstring injury and is now week-to-week. This is a bit concerning, as he might be cutting it close to being ready for the regular season in September. This is a bit worrisome for the Panthers, as Hubbard is supposed to be a key part of the offense, and yet he's now banged up enough that he'll miss some time. Fortunately, Panthers beat writer Sheena Quick reports that Hubbard is expected to be ready to go for Week 1 of the NFL regular season, one month from the day this injury was revealed. While there is some real concern with Hubbard, especially with Brooks coming back from his own serious injury, this update indicates there's a chance Hubbard won't miss any actual games this season. Hubbard missed a lot of time last season, rushing for just 511 yards and one touchdown on 134 attempts, with Rico Dowdle taking over the backfield for the bulk of the year. Now, Brooks might take over this backfield, as the 27-year-old Hubbard is going to miss a good portion, if not all, of the preseason, while Brooks gets a chance to thrive.
