The Carolina Panthers’ preseason matchup with the Buffalo Bills started slowly for Carolina, as the first team offense struggled to find any rhythm. Bryce Young and the starters managed just 11 total yards across three series, with the offense repeatedly going three and out.
One of the biggest storylines, however, was the return of Jonathon Brooks. Playing in his first competitive game since suffering a knee injury as a rookie in 2024, Brooks finally got back on the field with Chuba Hubbard sidelined. The results were modest three carries for five yards and a nine-yard reception but simply seeing Brooks back in action was an encouraging step for the Panthers.
On the other side, Josh Allen and the Bills’ offense quickly showed why Buffalo decided to play its starters. Allen looked comfortable in the Bills’ new stadium, completing 6 of 8 passes for 111 yards and a touchdown. He connected with Keon Coleman for a nine-yard touchdown and also showed promising chemistry with new receiver D.J. Moore, who finished with three catches for 61 yards.
Carolina eventually found some offense with Kenny Pickett and the backups, but the slow start from the starters was the main takeaway. Meanwhile, Allen looked sharp in limited action, giving Buffalo plenty to feel good about heading into the rest of the preseason.
For the Panthers, the biggest positive may have simply been getting Brooks back on the field. After missing nearly two years, his return gives Carolina another weapon to work into the offense as the regular season approaches.
