Panthers urged to make roster move with ex-Colorado WR that makes no sense originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Carolina Panthers were dealt some massively unfortunate news before the preseason, as Chris Brazzell II was lost for the year due to injury. It's a tough blow, but they do have Tetairoa McMillan and Jalen Coker as their No. 1 and No. 2 wide receivers. Xavier Legette is an interesting third WR, but behind them, there is now a bit of a shallow depth chart with Brazzell's injury. That's why Moe Moton of Bleacher Report urging the Panthers to cut second-year WR Jimmy Horn Jr. makes no sense. This baffling potential roster move on the ex-Colorado receiver would be a terrible decision, and one that fans would likely hate. Panthers urged to cut Jimmy Horn Jr. in move that'd make no sense "Tetairoa McMillan, Jalen Coker and Xavier Legette are the top three receivers," Moton writes. "Brycen Tremayne is a key special teamer. If the Panthers keep John Metchie III, it could cost Jimmy Horn Jr. a roster spot." While the Panthers' addition of John Metchie III is an interesting one, it's hard to imagine they'd release Horn to keep him, considering Horn's upside. Last season he recorded 11 receptions for 108 yards and eight rushing attempts for 69 yards in his rookie season for Carolina. He wasn't heavily involved, but he did have some solid production in his limited sample size. MORE: Cowboys QB Dak Prescott projected by ESPN to be behind Lions QB Jared Goff for HOF chance The Panthers' 2025 sixth-round pick is under contract for very cheap for the next three seasons. Releasing him would mean giving up on him, or that their depth chart is stacked. That's not really the case with Brazzell's injury, as other than McMillan, Coker and Legette, the Panthers have a few roster spots in the WR room up for grabs. Sure, Tremayne might be an impact player on special teams, whereas Horn is not. But that would only be four WRs on the active roster, and keeping a fifth, and even a sixth, WR wouldn't be that outlandish for the Panthers. Moton urging the Panthers to release Horn, the former Colorado WR, wouldn't really make sense considering their questionable WR depth. If Brazzell were healthy, it could be justified. But right now? It'd be a baffling decision to cut Horn ahead of the 2026 season. More NFL news:
