Denver Broncos wide receiver Pat Bryant does not generate the loudest buzz in a crowded room. That may change soon. The 2025 third-round pick out of Illinois is drawing serious praise this offseason and in training camp. Some see him as a potential breakout player. Others wonder if he can climb higher in the pecking order behind Courtland Sutton and newcomer Jaylen Waddle.
Bryant arrived in Denver as a relatively under-the-radar selection at pick 74. Speed was never his calling card, yet his size, hands, and toughness stood out on film. The Broncos’ receiver group already featured proven veterans and ascending young talent. Adding Waddle this offseason raised the competition even higher. Still, Bryant’s steady growth, late-season production, and strong training-camp form have put him firmly in the conversation. He could emerge as a reliable third option or even push for more significant snaps if injuries or matchups open the door.

Kay: "How the hell are you going to keep [Pat Bryant] off the field?"

Sean Payton: "We're not…"

Rookie Numbers and Late-Season Surge

Bryant finished his rookie season with 31 receptions for 378 yards and one touchdown across 15 games (seven starts). Those numbers look modest at first glance, but dig deeper and the late-season surge stands out. In the second half of 2025, he became a more trusted target for quarterback Bo Nix. From Weeks 10-15, he posted production that projected to over 700 receiving yards over a full season.
His involvement grew steadily after a quiet start. By midseason he was earning more snaps and converting opportunities efficiently. One standout playoff moment came in the AFC Divisional Round against the Buffalo Bills. Bryant hauled in the first three passes of the game for 32 yards—all in the opening quarter—before exiting with a concussion. That early production showed the trust Nix and the coaching staff had developed in him by season’s end. Even limited appearances late in the year could not erase the upward trajectory he had built.

Bryant’s Own Focus

Bryant himself stays focused on the details. “My main focus is when the ball is in the air, it’s mine,” he told The Athletic. “The easiest way to stop DBs from having PBUs is to be able to go up there and attack the ball… Honestly, just having trust in my hands.”
Bryant has also spoken about stepping up and taking extra reps after injuries limited him late in his rookie year. Concussions and other issues slowed his momentum at the end of 2025. Rather than return home, he spent most of the offseason at the team facility. He worked on recovery, added muscle, and aimed to become more durable. “I had to step up, go outside and play extra reps,” Bryant explained. “Whatever I can do to help the team, I’m all for it.”
Mentors like former teammate Trent Sherfield have reinforced the value of consistency and toughness. Bryant has taken those lessons seriously as he prepares for a bigger role.

Coaching Staff Praise

Coach Sean Payton has taken notice. “He’s a quick study, he gets it real fast,” Payton said during OTAs. “One of his great skill sets is his run-after-the-catch, because his feet stay on the ground when he catches it.” Payton also highlighted Bryant’s maturity. “There’s a confidence about him, a maturity. You wouldn’t feel like he was a second-year player if you didn’t know it.” The praise has only grown louder in training camp.

Sean Payton on Pat Bryant (long):

“He’s a quick study. He gets it real fast. I think one of his great skill sets is his run after the catch because his feet stay on the ground when he catches it. He has strong hands in traffic. He’s having a good stretch here. He’s healthy.…

— Zain Dhanani (@DhananiZain) June 12, 2026

When asked how the Broncos planned to keep Bryant off the field, Payton offered a blunt two-word reply: “We’re not.” He continued, “He’s real confident. He’s got really strong hands in traffic. He’s got that gift where… His feet stay on the ground. He’s got really, really good hands. You’re seeing someone in Year 2 with that confidence. He’s extremely smart, so he knows all the positions. There’s a lot of confidence in his catch radius. He’s big.” Payton has also said it will be “easy to create his role.”

Other coaches have joined the chorus. Offensive coordinator Davis Webb has called him “Patty Ice” and noted his savvy and consistency. Defensive coordinator Vance Joseph went even further after one standout practice: “He made two plays today that were unbelievable. It’s been like that all camp. That’s what he can be. He’s the guy in that room, in my opinion — he blocks, he catches the ball in traffic, he tracks the ball vertically, he’s great in the red zone. He’s the complete package. He loves to play and he’s the same player every day.”

The coaching staff is clearly raving about Bryant’s development and reliability.

Crowded Receiver Room

The receiver room grew more competitive when the Broncos acquired Waddle. Sutton remains the clear top option. Waddle slots in as a dynamic complement. That leaves Bryant competing primarily with Troy Franklin and Marvin Mims for snaps in three-receiver sets and the de facto WR3 role. Some observers still see a path for him to push higher if health holds and the chemistry with Nix continues to grow.
In the final stretch of 2025, Bryant was seeing increased snaps and third-down targets, trailing only Sutton in some key situations. Franklin produced solid numbers last year, yet Bryant’s physical style and blocking give him an edge in certain packages. Mims remains a big-play threat and return specialist, but Bryant’s reliability in traffic and red-zone ability could earn him more consistent opportunities.
The staff values versatility. If Bryant stays healthy and continues his camp form, he could carve out a larger share of the targets and occasionally function as a secondary option alongside Sutton and Waddle.

Pat Bryant’s Efficiency Metrics

Success rate metrics from Pat Bryant’s rookie year also stand out. One analysis showed Bryant’s receiving success rate at 55.1 percent, edging Sutton and topping Franklin and Mims. He proved efficient when given chances and showed the ability to create after the catch.
He also converted a high percentage of his targets into first downs and maintained a solid passer rating when targeted during key stretches. His drops were limited for a first-year player, and he rarely wasted opportunities once the ball arrived.
Blocking in the run game further endears him to the Broncos’ coaching staff. In an offense that mixes personnel and values versatility, those skills matter. His combination of contested-catch ability, after-the-catch production, and reliability on intermediate routes gives him a clear path to more playing time if the volume increases.

Path to a Larger Role

Breakout candidates often need opportunity and health. Bryant faces a crowded depth chart, yet the praise from Payton, Webb, and Joseph is not empty. His late-2025 form, camp dominance, and physical style suggest a player ready for a larger role, whether that means locking down WR3 or occasionally operating as a functional WR2 depends on how the season unfolds and how the snaps distribute.
Bryant does not need to become a pure speed threat. He needs to stay on the field, win his matchups in traffic, and continue converting targets efficiently. The tools are there. The coaching staff sees them.
If the second-year leap materializes the way many expect, Pat Bryant could move from overlooked depth piece to a reliable and productive piece of Denver’s passing attack in 2026. Fans and fantasy managers alike would be wise to keep an eye on the quiet climber wearing No. 13.
