Paul Goldschmidt's bizarre zero-pitch at-bat led to Yankees' go-ahead run against Blue Jays originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. Entering Sunday's game against the Blue Jays, Paul Goldschmidt has yet to appear in a Yankees game in the last week. That was until the Yankees sent him to the plate to pinch-hit for Ryan McMahon in the top of the 7th on Sunday. His time in the game was short-lived, though, but it was one of the events in a sequence that led to a Yankees go-ahead run late in the game. Paul Goldschmidt's bizarre zero-pitch at-bat led to Yankees' go-ahead run Before Goldschmidt could even get his feet set in the batter's box for his pinch-hit at-bat, the decision was made by Toronto to intentionally walk him. This in itself isn't too abnormal, but it doesn't happen often. What happened next was the bizarre part. Goldschmidt trotted over to first base, as the Yankees now had players on first and second base with one out. Before he could get settled again, the Yankees decided to replace Goldschmidt with Jazz Chisholm to get a player with better speed on first base. Just like that, in less than 30 seconds, Goldschmidt went from walking to home plate expecting to get an at-bat to ending up right back in the dugout half a minute later after he faced zero pitches.

The Blue Jays managed to send the game to extra innings, but the Yankees still hung on to win 4-3 in 10 innings. They head to Baltimore tomorrow night as they start another series against a division rival.
