Following the Jacksonville Jaguars' performance in Week 1 of the preseason against the New Orleans Saints, which players received the highest grades from Pro Football Focus, and which received the lowest?

Now, before we dive into all that, I do want to mention that while PFF's grading system is certainly helpful at quantifying a player's performance, it is not the be-all and end-all when it comes to evaluations. It is one tool out of many that are out there and should be treated as such.

For some context around these grades, below is the grading scale.

  • 39.9 or less: Poor
  • 90.0+: Elite
  • 80-89.9: High quality
  • 70-79.9: Good
  • 60-69.9: Above average
  • 50-59.9: Average
  • 40-49.9: Below average

Jaguars top five performers on offense

  • WR Chandler Brayboy: 89.3
  • G Emmanuel Pregnon: 74.0
  • WR Trebor Pena: 68.9
  • RB DeeJay Dalls: 68.0
  • WR Brady Boyd: 67.9

The trio of Brayboy, Pena, and Boyd combined for six receptions on seven targets for 102 yards. Boyd had a reception go for 19 yards and Pena one for 43 yards.

Pregnon allowed just one pressure over 18 pass-blocking snaps and earned a run-blocking grade of 70.0. Dallas held up well in pass protection on his three attempts and rushed for 26 yards on 10 attempts. He also caught one pass for six yards.

Jaguars top five performers on defense

  • S Cam'Ron Silmon-Craig: 84.3
  • LB Amari Burney: 81.9
  • DE Danny Striggow: 79.8
  • LB Branson Combs: 76.0
  • DT Ruke Orhorhoro: 70.3

Silmon-Craig had one tackle and one his one target he forced a pass breakup. Burney had three total tackles, a run stop, and didn't allow a reception on his one target.

Striggow and Orhorhoro combined for five tackles in the run game, four pressures, and two sacks. Orhorhoro had three of the quarterback pressures.

Combs made three of his four tackle attempts, recorded a run stop, and allowed one reception on two targets for only four yards. His coverage grade of 87.8 gave his overall grade a big boost.

Jaguars' five lowest-graded players

  • CB Corey Ballentine: 29.7
  • C Jerome Carvin: 34.0
  • CB Christian Braswell: 37.4
  • OT Jimto Obidegwu: 44.0
  • DT Keivie Rose: 44.6

Ballentine was picked on in coverage, allowing four receptions on six targets for 80 yards. Braswell surrendered four completions on five targets for 37 yards. Neither recorded a pass breakup.

Rose played 28 total snaps, recording just one tackle and no quarterback pressures. His run defense grade brought down his overall grade.

Obidegwu allowed one pressure over 16 pass-blocking snaps. He received a so-so run-blocking grade of 56.9. Carvin allowed one pressure on 11 pass-blocking snaps and earned a run-blocking grade of 38.0.
