Phillies news: Bryson Stott's 'nothing crazy' reaction to changing positions appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

The Philadelphia Phillies arguably sacrificed defense for an offensive boost when they shifted players around the diamond for trade deadline addition Luis Arraez, but Bryson Stott is doing his part to make this infield realignment as smooth as possible. He looked quite comfortable at third base during Tuesday’s 6-4 win versus the visiting Miami Marlins.

The former starting second baseman made multiple diving stops in the ninth inning, including an especially difficult one to record the final out of the night. Stott commanded the hot corner with ease, and he maintained an air of nonchalance during his postgame interview.

“Nothing crazy,” the No. 14 pick in the 2019 MLB Draft told Phillies broadcasters Tom McCarthy and John Kruk when asked about changing positions, per Cory Nidoh of Philly Sports Network and MetroPhilly. “I know Bohmer {Alec Bohm} has played there, {Bryce Harper has been} in right. I have a few games at third. Just go out there and catch the ball and throw to first. I don’t really care how it looks, as long as I catch it and throw it to first.”

Bryson Stott on changing positions on postgame with Tom McCarthy and John Kruk: "Nothing crazy. I know Bohmer has played there, Bryce as in right. I have a few games at third. Just go out there and catch the ball and throw to first. I don't really care how it looks, as long as…

Stott nicely sums up the ballclub’s approach for the remainder of the campaign, at least from a defensive perspective. It may not always be pretty or analytics-friendly, but the Phillies must do enough to prevent catastrophe. They technically fell well below that bar in this one, committing two errors versus The Fish, but fans witnessed some truly dazzling plays in Citizens Bank Park.

Bohm made a fantastic unassisted double play at first in the seventh inning, complimenting Stott’s heroics on the opposite corner. Both players also left a huge mark with their bats, notching two RBIs apiece. Bryson Stott smacked a two-run, go-ahead single up the middle as part of a four-run sixth for the home team.

He has now reached base safely in 19 consecutive games and is making an undeniable impact on defense. The man is doing it all while remaining completely composed.

Stott is batting .266 with nine home runs, 59 RBIs, 23 stolen bases, a .344 on-base percentage, .418 slugging percentage and .762 OPS. He had three defensive runs saved and two outs above average in 120 innings at third entering this divisional showdown, according to FanGraphs.

The Phillies (69-58) have several household names who boast a wealth of accolades, but No. 5 may just be the team’s X-factor in 2026.
