PITTSBURGH — The Pirates received a diagnosis on second base prospect Termarr Johnson’s left knee injury and it’s not good news.
Johnson, who was carted off the field for Triple-A Indianapolis on Saturday, suffered a torn ACL and LCL. He will be examined by Dr. Dan Cooper in Dallas, Texas next week.
Johnson suffered the season-ending injury while running to first base. He landed awkwardly and immediately clutched his left knee before he was taken off the field with an air cast around his leg.
The injury puts an end to a disappointing first Triple-A season for Johnson. In 96 games with Indianapolis, the 22-year-old batted .199/.336/.319 with 14 doubles, one triple, eight home runs, 37 RBI and a career-high 24 stolen bases.
Johnson, a first-round pick of the Pirates in 2022, has spent five seasons in the organization. In 467 games across five levels, he carries a .239/.372/.382 batting line with 66 doubles, six triples, 51 home runs, 191 RBI and 82 steals.
Johnson is considered the Pirates’ 19th-best prospect by MLB Pipeline.
