The Pirates placed catcher/first baseman Endy Rodríguez on the 10-day injured list with left hip inflammation and optioned left-handed pitcher Evan Sisk to Triple-A Indianapolis.
Rodríguez, whose placement on the IL is retroactive to Aug. 10, had not appeared in a game for the Pirates since Friday. In 45 games for the Pirates this season, the 26-year-old has batted .267/.373/.467 with six doubles, seven home runs, 20 RBI and six steals.
It’s the second stint on the IL this season for Rodríguez. He was placed on the 10-day IL on July 8 with a left glute strain and was reinstated on July 27.
Sisk has made 36 appearances this season and is 1-1 with a 2.66 ERA. He entered the game in relief of starter Carmen Mlodzinski on Wednesday night and allowed two inherited runners to score. His final line read two-third of an inning, no hits, one run and two walks.
The Pirates recalled infielder Jake Brannigan and right-handed pitcher Isaac Mattson from Triple-A Indianapolis.
Brannigan has had two stints with the Pirates this season and made his MLB debut on July 7 against the Braves. In 25 games with Indianapolis, the 25-year-old has hit .205/.305/.352 with four doubles, three home runs and 19 RBI.
This will be Mattson’s fourth stint with Pittsburgh this season. In 36 big-league appearances, he’s 0-0 with a 4.93 ERA.
