Preseason Blitz: Daingerfield Tigers

DAINGERFIELD, TX (KTAL/KMSS) – Last season, Daingerfield finished at the top of district with a perfect district record. While there are some holes to fill, the Tigers top talent returning and every player is bringing some extra agility this season. "We’re gonna be fast. We’re gonna be really fast," head coach Davin Nelson said. And that’s not just the skill players. "From the O-line to the receivers to the d-line to the secondary I’m excited to see how fast we can be," Nelson said. That is where Daingerfield has focused its offseason training. "We been working on our speed in the weight room, out here, I’ve been having them out on the hill, everything," said senior Reign Wallace. Wallace is one of the Tiger's top competitors returning for his senior year. "He broke every school record we had last season. Most touchdowns in a season, most receptions in a season, most receiving touchdowns in a season, I think he threw for two touchdowns, ran for five touchdowns, and received I don’t know maybe 20 touchdowns last year," Nelson said. Wallace’s impact extends further than an offensive machine, but as a senior he’s one of the biggest leaders. "I like to play around a little bit you know, just try and build a connection with my team. My freshman year I had people that were older than me, I’ve always grown up with older people, so working with them helped me a lot," Wallace said. Another younger role model on the Tiger team is Micah Broughton. "He was our leading rusher last year, wasn’t even our starting running back, Ashton Williams who’s now playing at SAU was our starter and Micah came in and took off as the season went on," Nelson. "I was like fourth in depth chart, I would always cut people in line, try to get reps in, try showing out and it ended up paying off," Broughton said. Broughton uses that to be a motivation. "I’m just trying to push them around, trying to get them to work as hard as I did for my leadership role," Broughton said. Daingerfield hopes putting all those pieces together defends the district title. "I’m just ready to play. First game of the season to the last," Wallace said.
