Luis Enrique has expressed his delight after Paris Saint-Germain completed the signing of Ferran Torres from Barcelona, describing the Spanish forward as a player who fits perfectly into the French champions’ plans.

The PSG manager played a key role in bringing Ferran to Paris and was asked about his new signing during a press conference ahead of Sunday’s Super Cup final against Lens.

Ferran has brought his Barcelona spell to an end after completing a move to PSG, with the Catalan club set to receive a reported €50 million transfer fee for the Spanish international.

The move gives Luis Enrique another versatile option in attack, and the former Barcelona manager made it clear that he sees Ferran as an ideal fit for his style of football.

Luis Enrique delighted as Ferran Torres joins PSG

Having already worked with the forward during his time in charge of the Spain national team, Luis Enrique knows exactly what the former Barcelona attacker can bring to his squad.

The Spanish coach explained that the club remain open to opportunities that can improve the squad and believes Ferran possesses the quality and mentality required to succeed in Paris.

“I’m delighted, of course. I’m pleased that we’ve strengthened the squad.

“We’re always open to opportunities to bolster the squad. Ferran is a world-class player whom we know well,” he began.

Enrique also highlighted the former Barcelona attacker’s versatility, which could prove particularly valuable following several departures from the PSG squad.

“I think he fits perfectly with what we’re looking for and what we want.

“He’s a player who can play in any attacking position. We value his mentality.”

PSG see Ferran as an important addition

Enrique also explained that PSG’s transfer plans are linked to the changes already made within the squad.

The Parisian club have lost players and are now looking to bring in profiles capable of fitting their style rather than simply adding numbers.

Discussing PSG’s continued work in the transfer market, Luis Enrique said:

“I believe that, following a few departures, it’s important to find this type of player.

“Together with the chairman and Luis Campos, we’re continuing to work to strengthen our team and find players who best suit our style,” he concluded.

As such, Ferran has already started working with his new teammates and could now begin his adaptation to Luis Enrique’s system.
