Former India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was forced to pause a recording session on his YouTube channel after police arrived at his house.

The interruption came while Ashwin was mid-recording, and it was his house security guard's repeated calls, followed by a call from his wife, that alerted him to the unexpected visitors at the door. Ashwin explained the sequence of events, attributing the visit to a routine administrative matter connected to his passport.

"The security of my house called me three-four times. He doesn't make these many calls. My wife also called me. Then I cut the call and asked. She told me, 'Police is at the door.' I had given my passport for a visa, so he brought that passport back," said Ashwin on his YouTube channel.

Why did police come to Ashwin's house?

The reason for the police visit was directly connected to Ashwin's passport. He had submitted the document as part of a visa application, and an officer arrived at his home to return it once the process was complete. Ashwin confirmed this himself during the recording, making clear that the arrival, while unexpected in the moment, had a straightforward administrative explanation.

Ashwin stepped away from his recording to attend to the situation and then returned to explain the full sequence of events. His account highlighted how the security guard's repeated calls and his wife's intervention were what drew his attention away from the session, given that the guard rarely contacts him so frequently.

What did Ashwin say about preferring a normal life?

The unexpected interruption gave Ashwin an opportunity to share his broader outlook on life away from cricket. Despite retiring as one of India's most decorated spinners, he has consistently chosen to engage with fans through accessible, everyday formats rather than formal public appearances, and the passport episode sat naturally within that approach.

Ashwin said, 'I want to live the life of a normal person, so I prefer normalcy', and the remark reflected his deliberate approach to his post-cricket public presence, where he uses the social media as a direct and informal platform to discuss the game and connect with supporters.
