The future is (almost) now for Fernando Mendoza and the Las Vegas Raiders.
\nLas Vegas won the Fernandomania sweepstakes this year, securing the No. 1 overall pick after finishing with the NFL's worst record in 2025. Now, the team turns to Mendoza in preseason Week 1, but not beyond.
\nAs it stands, Vegas brass is set on starting veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins this season as the rookie gets up to speed behind him. As the saying goes: Man plans, the football gods laugh. For now, Mendoza gets a first look from the Raiders and their opponents this preseason.
\nThe Cardinals weren't as lucky in selecting a passer, but they're hoping they found one in third-round pick Carson Beck. Beck was a standout in the Hall of Fame game, with his poised performance surprising many who tuned in.
\nNow, the pair − who last faced off in the 2026 College Football Playoff National Championship game − meet once again on the field, this time, with significantly different stakes.
