More impressive than the raw numbers was Simpson’s efficiency. He completed 84% of his passes, consistently moving the offense while avoiding the costly mistakes that often accompany a rookie quarterback’s first NFL action. For a first-round selection adjusting to the speed and complexity of professional defenses, the performance represented an encouraging opening chapter. Simpson showed poise in the pocket and delivered the football accurately, allowing Los Angeles to sustain drives and create scoring opportunities. His two touchdown passes highlighted his ability to finish possessions, while the zero in the interception column may have been just as important to the Rams’ coaching staff. Preseason statistics come with obvious limitations. Defensive schemes are typically more basic, starters often play limited snaps and coaches are evaluating personnel as much as they are attempting to win.
