WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif — The Texas Rangers activated pitcher Jakob Junis from the injured list and designated pitcher Marco Gonzalez for assignment prior to Saturday's game against the Athletics at Sutter Health Park. Junis had been on the injured list since July 30 with an adductor strain and, in part because of hip impingement prior to that, has only pitched five times in the second half of the season. "He's ready to go," Rangers manager Skip Schumaker said. "He had a 30-pitch bullpen a couple of days ago and feels really good coming out of it. It felt like, instead of a rehab assignment, he was ready to go now. We'll definitely take it." The team's relief staff has been tested and stretched for the last month. Their 5.56 ERA since the All-Star break is the second-worst league-wide as the Rangers have been forced to rely upon a host of rookie relievers. Junis and Chase Silseth, whom the Rangers acquired at last week's trade deadline, will offer the bullpen a kind of veteran right-handed depth that they haven't had for much of this season. Junis had a 2.70 ERA in 40 innings prior to his adductor strain. Subscribe Sign up for the Morning Roundup, a free newsletter delivering the latest North Texas news each morning.
