The Baltimore Ravens have spent much of training camp building confidence in what appears to be one of the deepest secondaries in football. This week, that depth has faced an unexpected test. Starting cornerbacks Marlon Humphrey and Nate Wiggins were both forced to exit practice early this week due to injury, which obviously temporarily thinned the top of Baltimore's cornerback rotation.

While good news has followed, and neither injury is believed to be serious, their absences have provided a glimpse into what life could look like behind the starters. So far, the early returns have been encouraging. Several sources, including ESPN's Jamison Hensley, have reported that the Ravens' younger defensive backs continued to make plays during Wednesday's practice, a trend that seemingly carried into Thursday.

One of the highlights came when rookie cornerback Chandler Rivers knocked the ball loose from wide receiver Xavier Guillory, sending it into the air for fellow defensive back Keyon Martin to secure an interception. It was another example of a trend that has emerged throughout training camp. Whenever opportunities arise, Baltimore's young defensive backs seem prepared to take advantage of them.

Young Ravens cornerbacks continue making the most of opportunities.

The Ravens entered camp feeling confident about their top options. Humphrey remains one of the defense's veteran leaders. Wiggins has looked poised for a significant leap as he appears to be the healthiest he has been since his NCAA days. Chidobe Awuzie brings valuable experience, and T.J. Tampa has spent much of camp strengthening his case for a larger role in 2026.

Behind them, however, several younger players are beginning to make their presence felt. Rivers' forced turnover was one of the more notable examples, but he isn't alone. Martin, Bilhal Kone, and others have continued earning valuable repetitions against Baltimore's talented group of receivers. Every additional rep becomes more important when injuries force coaches to look deeper into the roster. The development matters because cornerback depth rarely remains a luxury for long in the NFL. It usually becomes a necessity.

Defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver likes what he's seeing

Defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver sounded confident when discussing Baltimore's options at cornerback.

"There are a bunch of guys I think that could step in if needed," Weaver said. That confidence isn't being built solely on potential. It's being built on what coaches have watched throughout training camp.

Baltimore's secondary has consistently challenged receivers, created turnovers and competed at a high level. Even with Humphrey and Wiggins temporarily sidelined, the group has continued finding ways to make plays.

The Ravens are hopeful both starters return soon. Weaver indicated that he expects Humphrey and Wiggins to be back in the near future, which would restore the defense to full strength. In the meantime, Baltimore is receiving something almost as valuable. The Ravens are learning that if adversity strikes during the regular season, they may have more answers in the secondary than they initially realized.
