Ravindra Jadeja completed 350 Test wickets during the first Test between India and Sri Lanka at Galle International Stadium, with the milestone arriving on August 17, 2026. Jadeja had entered the match on August 15 needing just two more wickets to reach the landmark, and he duly claimed them across the course of the Galle encounter.

The achievement places Jadeja in rare company. He becomes only the fourth cricketer in the history of Test cricket to combine 4,000 or more Test runs with 350 or more wickets, joining Kapil Dev, Ian Botham and Daniel Vettori. Jadeja had accumulated 4,095 Test runs alongside his 348 wickets heading into the Galle series, meaning the double was confirmed the moment he reached the 350-wicket mark.

Jadeja also becomes the fifth Indian bowler to reach 350 Test wickets in the format, following Anil Kumble, Ravichandran Ashwin, Kapil Dev and Harbhajan Singh. The landmark underlines his standing as one of the most complete all-rounders India has produced across the modern era of Test cricket.

How does Jadeja's record against Sri Lanka look?

Sri Lanka have historically been a productive opponent for Jadeja. Heading into the Galle Test, he had taken 33 wickets against them across seven Tests at an average of 23.72, with two five-wicket hauls to his name. That record made Galle a fitting venue for him to complete the 350-wicket landmark.

The first Test of the series began on August 15, 2026, at Galle International Stadium, a ground that has traditionally offered considerable assistance to spin bowlers. Jadeja's strong record against Sri Lanka and the spin-friendly conditions at Galle combined to make the milestone a realistic prospect from the moment the match began.

What is the significance of Jadeja's return after injury?

The milestone carries added weight given the circumstances of Jadeja's recent availability. The 37-year-old had not represented India since an ODI against New Zealand in January 2026. He then missed cricket from May 2026 onwards after sustaining tennis elbow during IPL 2026, making his return to the Test side for the Sri Lanka series a significant moment in itself.

Completing 350 Test wickets in his first Test appearance after that extended absence underlines the significance of the Galle landmark within the broader context of his career. Few players return from a prolonged injury layoff and immediately contribute to a historic personal milestone, and Jadeja's achievement at Galle stands as a measure of both his fitness and his enduring quality as a Test match bowler.

Jadeja claimed the wicket of Keshara Nuwantha that got him to the important milestone in his storied Test career.
