Uncertainty remains high at Real Madrid with the summer transfer window closing on September 1. The Merengues have not yet considered Jose Mourinho’s squad complete.

The Portuguese coach continues to push for a left-footed centre-back and another midfielder, although both moves depend on departures.

With Franco Mastantuono’s exit from the squad not expected to be the last and Real Madrid also working on Jacobo Ortega’s departure to Strasbourg, Eduardo Camavinga has once again emerged as a potential departure.

According to reports in Italy, as relayed by Defensa Central, Manchester United are monitoring Camavinga’s situation.

The Red Devils could consider making a move for the Frenchman whose current contract with Real Madrid runs until 2029.

Mourinho still has questions about Camavinga

The midfielder has started all of Real Madrid’s pre-season matches, but the report claims that his performances have not completely convinced Mourinho.

The Portuguese coach does not consider Camavinga an automatic starter in his plans, something that could eventually lead the club to reconsider the possibility of selling him.

That possibility had already been dismissed earlier in the summer after Camavinga rejected an offer from another Premier League club.

The player’s preference has always been to remain in Spain, where he feels comfortable, and both he and his representatives have communicated that position to Real Madrid.

The Merengues themselves still have a number of people who believe in his potential.

Two difficult seasons

The doubts surrounding Camavinga have been building for around two years. After emerging as one of Madrid’s standout players during their last two Champions League triumphs, his performances have declined significantly.

His arrival in 2021 generated considerable excitement after Real Madrid paid almost €40 million for the young French midfielder, who had already established himself as one of Ligue 1’s most promising talents.

However, injuries and a lack of consistency have disrupted his progress. Camavinga has gradually lost his place in the starting lineup, while criticism from the fanbase has increased.

At just 23 years old, however, he still has considerable room to develop.

Exit difficult

Despite the speculation, a Camavinga exit does not currently appear straightforward.

According to the report, Real Madrid have not received any recent offers for the midfielder, while Camavinga has reiterated his intention to stay, work hard and make life difficult for Mourinho when competing for a place during the 2026/27 season.

Mourinho has already been frank with the player, making it clear that he is unlikely to have a leading role.

However, Camavinga could still become an important squad player and provide an impact from the bench during what is expected to be another demanding season.

A major offer could change the situation. A bid in the region of €60-70 million could potentially convince Real Madrid to sell, particularly if the money helped finance one of the signings Mourinho is still requesting.

For now, though, that scenario appears some way from becoming a reality, and Camavinga remains a Real Madrid player.
