Jamie Carragher was impressed with Myles Lewis-Skelly’s performance when Arsenal faced Manchester City in the Community Shield yesterday. The pass he provided for Riccardo Calafiori was world-class, prompting the Liverpool icon to question whether Arsenal truly wants to sell the midfielder.
In recent weeks, several reports have linked Lewis-Skelly with a departure from Arsenal, with teams such as Chelsea and Manchester United reportedly interested in signing him. However, there is also a strong possibility that he will remain at the club and play an important role this season.
Lewis-Skelly Impresses Against Manchester City
It was therefore important for Lewis-Skelly to perform well against City, and he showed that he still has plenty to offer Arsenal. The midfielder is now trying to establish himself in midfield after breaking through as a left-back, although he faces serious competition in the centre of the pitch, particularly following the arrival of Bruno Guimaraes.
Lewis-Skelly’s versatility remains an asset, and his display against City provided another reminder of his quality. His contribution to Arsenal’s goal caught Carragher’s attention, with the former Liverpool player questioning why the Gunners would consider allowing the youngster to leave.
Carragher subsequently made a post on X about the midfielder, highlighting the role he played in the goal and questioning Arsenal’s intentions regarding his future.
Carragher Questions Arsenal’s Decision
He wrote: “MLS role in that Arsenal goal!
“Are Arsenal really looking to push him out?”
Lewis-Skelly wants to stay at Arsenal, but the club could still consider selling him if a significant offer arrives. His departure would raise substantial funds that could be used to improve the squad, which means his future remains uncertain despite his impressive performance against City.
Arsenal must now decide whether Lewis-Skelly is better served remaining with the team and developing his midfield role or whether a major offer would be too tempting to reject. His display against City will only strengthen the argument for keeping him.
For now, there is no certainty that Lewis-Skelly will leave, and his performance has provided another reason for Arsenal to carefully consider any decision over his future.
