The Indiana Fever were in wire-to-wire control during their win over the Toronto Tempo in Toronto on Tuesday, but that didn’t stop the game from getting a little chippy.

In the third quarter, Tempo All-Star guard Marina Mabrey swiped at Fever All-Star guard Kelsey Mitchell, who stopped in her tracks to shove Mabrey in the chest. ESPN play-by-play announcer Ryan Ruocco and color commentator Rebecca Lobo seemed genuinely caught off guard by Mitchell’s reaction.

The Fever star not only gave Mabrey a shove, but had a few words for Mabrey before a referee casually intervened.

“Mitchell never does this,” Lobo said. “Mitchell never does this. Even when she gets frustrated, when she doesn’t get calls, she generally walks the other way and just has a smile on her face. I have not seen her interact with a player like this.”

The replay showed Mitchell pointing in Mabrey’s face while appearing to say, “Don’t f*cking do that again.”

Meanwhile, a much more excitable TSN broadcast team expressed similar confusion over what in the world just happened that caused the incident:

For once, a Fever player not named Sophie Cunningham or Caitlin Clark was involved in a skirmish. Clark leads the WNBA with seven technical fouls this season. In this instance, Mabrey and Mitchell were assessed a double technical foul.

While Clark and Cunningham have dominated the headlines on and off the court, Mitchell has arguably been the Fever’s best and most consistent player all season long.

Mitchell led the Fever with 29 points, notching her 20th consecutive game scoring at least 20 points as the Fever won by a 101-95 scoreline. The 2026 WNBA MVP candidate is now tied with A’ja Wilson, the reigning WNBA MVP, for the longest such streak in league history, per the WNBA.

Mitchell exited the game at the end of the third after getting “overheated,” as Fever head coach Stephanie White told reporters postgame. Clark addressed it in her postgame interview with Holly Rowe on ESPN. “Well, maybe if Canada had air conditioning, Holly, that would probably be helpful,” Clark cracked. “It’s a million degrees in here, but hopefully, she’ll be OK.”

The Fever (24-12) will ride a five-game winning streak into their matchup with the Dallas Wings on Thursday.
