When the Boston Red Sox traded for Adley Rutschman, they also landed Jake Rogers in the same deal. The idea of bringing in Rogers was a simple one, as Boston needed a catcher who could come in and make just a small impact for them while Rutschman was coming back from an injury.
It's unfortunate that he had to deal with being traded and then getting designated for assignment shortly after, but it's part of the game.
Some players can have a bad taste in their mouth after things like that happen, but recently, speaking to reporters, Rogers said the Red Sox treated him well. He even said he couldn't have had a nicer experience with the organization.
“Obviously, when the trade happened with Adley, I knew [I was] just playing the game for a little bit. I figured that once he came back, they had to make a move and it seemed like I was a choice,” Rogers said, per MLB.com.
"[Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig] Breslow and everybody in Boston couldn't have been nicer and handled the whole situation perfectly.”
Although the relationship was short-lived, it is a positive sign for Boston. The last thing organizations like the Red Sox want is to upset veterans.
Guys around the league talk, so hearing Rogers say people within the organization treated him right and did everything they needed to should be viewed as a good thing.
Rogers was recently claimed by the Chicago White Sox and will have a chance to fight for a playoff spot in the second half. He was on the Detroit Tigers before landing with the Orioles, who then sent him to Boston.
