What does a manager change after every player in his starting lineup drives in a run? Apparently, he adds Jarren Duran.
The Boston Red Sox will attempt to follow one of their most complete offensive performances of the season Tuesday when they continue their three-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Fenway Park.
Boston manager Chad Tracy made only one significant adjustment to the group responsible for Monday’s 11-1 demolition. Duran will return to the lineup in left field and bat seventh against Arizona right-hander Merrill Kelly. Eli White, who started in left and drove in Boston’s first run Monday, will begin the game on the bench.
“Right back at it,” the Red Sox wrote while unveiling the lineup.
It is difficult to argue with that approach after what Boston’s offense accomplished in the series opener.
Red Sox Add Jarren Duran To Red-Hot Lineup
Nick Sogard will lead off and play second base for the second consecutive game. He will be followed by Ceddanne Rafaela and Wilyer Abreu. Willson Contreras, Adley Rutschman and Caleb Durbin retain their places in the heart of the order.

Duran slots into the seventh spot, with Andruw Monasterio moving down one position to eighth. Mickey Gasper will serve as the designated hitter and bat ninth.
Boston’s complete lineup is as follows:
Nick Sogard, 2B
Ceddanne Rafaela, CF
Wilyer Abreu, RF
Willson Contreras, 1B
Adley Rutschman, C
Caleb Durbin, 3B
Jarren Duran, LF
Andruw Monasterio, SS
Mickey Gasper, DH
Ranger Suárez will start on the mound for Boston. The lineup is not loaded with traditional star power at every position, but Monday showed how difficult the Red Sox can become when production comes from top to bottom.
Each of Boston’s nine starters recorded at least one RBI in the 11-1 win. The Red Sox finished with 16 hits, scored in six consecutive innings and did not strike out once. Now Tracy is inserting one of the most dynamic runners in baseball into that group.
Boston’s Entire Lineup Punished Arizona
There was no single player responsible for Monday’s offensive eruption. Rafaela recorded three doubles as part of a three-hit performance. Durbin also collected three hits, while Gasper and Abreu drove in two runs apiece.
Contreras launched his 25th home run, establishing a new career high. The veteran first baseman surpassed the 24 homers he hit with the Chicago Cubs in 2019. Gasper added his first major league home run in the seventh inning. Rutschman broke out of a recent hitless stretch with two hits, including an RBI double.
Even the outs were productive.
Monasterio and Abreu each hit a sacrifice fly, while Gasper added an RBI groundout before homering later in the game. Arizona’s pitching staff never had an opportunity to breathe. Boston scored in every inning from the second through the seventh and repeatedly extended its lead without relying exclusively on the home run.
The Red Sox scored 11 times while hitting only two balls out of Fenway Park. That type of sustained offense is much more difficult for an opponent to contain.

Red Sox Have Favorable Matchup Against Merrill Kelly
Duran’s return gives Boston another dangerous left-handed bat against Kelly, who has struggled throughout the season. The Arizona right-hander enters Tuesday with an 8-10 record, 5.11 ERA and 1.48 WHIP over 125 innings. Kelly has allowed 25 home runs while issuing 53 walks.
Boston should have opportunities to apply pressure again. The Red Sox are 67-58 and maintain a six-game advantage for the second American League wild-card position. They also have an opportunity to clinch another series victory before Payton Tolle takes the mound in Wednesday’s finale.
Suárez will attempt to give the offense enough room to work Tuesday. The left-hander enters with a 4-3 record, 3.25 ERA and 110 strikeouts over 108 innings.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. ET on NESN.
Repeating an 11-run performance will be difficult. Still, adding Duran to a lineup that just received an RBI from every starting player feels almost unfair. Boston’s offense finally appears to be clicking again, and the Red Sox have no reason to take their foot off the gas.
