Red Sox Pitcher Has Been Dealing With Annoying Injury All Season originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Boston Red Sox have dealt with a lot of injuries throughout the season, which is part of why they struggled at times. Had the Red Sox been fully healthy throughout a lot of this campaign, there's a very strong argument to be made that we could be looking at not only an elite team, but perhaps the best in all of Major League Baseball. The Red Sox are that good from top to bottom, so it's honestly not surprising to see them find this level of success. At the same time, some players are dealing with injuries and trying to push through them. One of those guys is Patrick Sandoval, a left-handed pitcher who the Red Sox have been trying to work with to get back to the level that everybody knows he can throw the baseball at. Sandoval didn't have a great outing in his most recent start against the Pittsburgh Pirates, allowing seven runs on nine hits in 4.0 innings. He also walked three, but struck out six. Speaking to reporters after the game, there might be a reason why he's not throwing the baseball at the level everybody knows he can. He spoke with the Boston Globe and said he's dealt with a blister on his foot for much of the year. "Patrick Sandoval said he's been pitching through a blister on his left foot basically all season (thus the trainer visit in the fourth inning)," The Boston Globe's Alex Speier reported on Sunday. "He says it's just a matter of pain tolerance." A blister might not be anything major to the naked eye, but the fact that Sandoval thought it was important to bring this up goes to show that it's probably bothering him a good bit. If he can't push off his left foot properly on the mound, that could be causing some issues. Hopefully, this is something that can be resolved over the next few months, as he's an important piece of what Boston is trying to do; though if he's been dealing with it all year, there's a better chance he'll continue to have that problem in the postseason.
