The Boston Red Sox will have one of the toughest decisions in Major League Baseball to make over the next few weeks with Franklin Arias.
Many teams will call up top prospects, but not all top prospects come up at the same time. He would be coming up during the middle of a pennant race, which, unfortunately, leads to even more stress than rookies making their debut already have to deal with.
It remains unclear what Boston will do on this front.
Some reports have indicated that the Red Sox want to call him up at some point in the next month or so, while others have suggested that he won't make his debut until 2027.
If one thing is for certain, Boston is acting like he could make his debut, currently using him at both spots in the middle infield.
“Arias continues to get reps at both middle infield stops to give the big league club options for a role down the stretch and potentially in October. The Red Sox have a history with young players making similar ascensions, most notably when Xander Bogaerts joined the 2013 championship team,” Tim Crowley wrote.
This could be a nothingburger, or it could suggest the Red Sox want him to come up and play shortstop or second base.
Boston may just want him to get some reps at second for future years, but the timing is interesting.
