Hull City Step Up Mert Kömür Pursuit as Augsburg Hold Firm on £10.2m Offer

Hull City are pushing hard to complete a deal for Mert Kömür, with the Tigers increasingly encouraged that a breakthrough can be found despite Augsburg rejecting a latest offer worth €12million, which is £10.2m. According to TeamTalk, the Tigers have stayed persistent in negotiations and believe the gap is closing.

There is a clear sense that Hull’s interest has gone beyond tentative enquiries. The report states that the Tigers are “increasingly confident they can finalise a deal for midfielder Mert Kömür, despite having multiple bids rejected by Augsburg”. That wording matters. It points to a club that has done significant groundwork and feels the conditions are moving in the right direction.

Mert Kömür Deal Hinges on Augsburg Valuation

Hull’s latest package, “€12million (£10.2m / $13.8m) inclusive of add-ons”, was knocked back, with Augsburg signalling they want more. Even so, there appears to be no retreat from Hull. The expectation is that dialogue will continue, with “both parties are expected to keep channels open in the coming days”.

From Hull’s perspective, one major part of the deal is already in place. Kömür “has already agreed personal terms with Hull and is keen to complete the transfer”. That removes uncertainty on the player side and allows the focus to remain entirely on club-to-club negotiations.

The 21-year-old is said to see “the opportunity at the MKM Stadium as an attractive next step in his career”, with Hull offering “a clear pathway and a project that appeals to him”. For recruitment departments, that sort of alignment is valuable. It can often be the difference in difficult negotiations, particularly when the selling club is resisting.

Hull City Transfer Strategy Shows Clear Intent

Hull’s determination has been a running theme. TEAMtalk reports that club officials “are said to be determined not to let the opportunity slip and are prepared to refine their offer further if necessary to meet Augsburg’s expectations”. That strongly suggests this is not a passing target, it is a player they view as capable of improving the side immediately.

Kömür’s profile also explains the interest. Operating mainly as an attacking midfielder, he recorded two goals and four assists in 28 Bundesliga appearances last season, 17 of them starts. At 21, he fits the model of a player with immediate quality and room for growth.

For now, Augsburg remain firm. The report says they “would rather keep him than lose him for what they see as a minimal price”. That is the crux of the negotiation, and the next move from Hull may prove decisive.

Our View

From a Hull City supporter’s perspective, this report feels encouraging for a few reasons. First, the club are clearly not acting on impulse. If personal terms are already agreed and talks have continued through rejected bids, then this looks like a properly targeted move rather than a late-window gamble. Fans want to see a plan, and this reads like one.

Kömür also sounds like the type of signing supporters can get behind quickly. He is young, he has Bundesliga experience, and he seems genuinely sold on the move. Hearing that he believes Hull offer “a clear pathway and a project that appeals to him” is exactly the kind of line fans want to hear. It suggests ambition from the player as well as the club.

There is always a point in negotiations where supporters start wondering whether a club should walk away, but this one feels worth pushing. An attacking midfielder with technical quality and top-level experience for around £10.2m to £12m could be smart business in today’s market, provided the final figure stays under control.
