Liverpool, Everton and Fulham Tracking Héctor Fort as Barcelona Accelerate Exit Plans

Liverpool’s search for defensive depth appears to be stretching across Europe again, with Héctor Fort emerging as a name attracting attention from multiple Premier League clubs. According to Sport, Barcelona are moving quickly in an effort to shape the 19-year-old full-back’s future, and interest from England is firmly part of that picture.

This is not a deal framed as advanced, and there is no indication yet that Liverpool are leading the race. But it is a situation worth watching. Everton and Fulham are also in the mix, and the sense from Spain is that Barcelona are open to finding a structure that allows the player to leave while protecting their longer-term interests.

That detail matters. Barcelona’s preference is reported to be a transaction that preserves a meaningful percentage of the player’s rights and any future sale value, which immediately narrows the type of agreement available to suitors. For clubs in England, the appeal is clear, a young, technically polished full-back with top-level coaching behind him and room still to grow.

Héctor Fort profile suits Liverpool squad need

Liverpool’s need for reinforcement in the full-back areas has been discussed repeatedly for good reason. Depth can look healthy on paper and still leave a squad exposed across a long season. Availability, versatility and profile all matter, particularly in a system that asks defenders to contribute in possession and recover quickly without it.

Fort fits many of those broad criteria. He is naturally a right-back, but he has also been used on the left, a trait that tends to hold real value for recruitment teams trying to maximise squad flexibility. Last season, he made 17 appearances in all competitions for Elche and contributed five goals, a return that hints at an attacking instinct to go with his defensive education.

At 19, he would also sit firmly in the development bracket rather than arrive as a guaranteed starter. That distinction is important. Liverpool are unlikely to be looking at him as a headline signing, more as a player who could strengthen the group, compete for minutes and potentially grow into a larger role over time.

Barcelona transfer stance shapes Fort race

The strongest detail in the reporting centres on Barcelona’s willingness to move him on under the right formula. Sport states: “From England, teams such as Everton, Fulham and even Liverpool have shown interest in Hector Fort. The ‘toffees’ could present the most attractive proposal for all parties.”

It adds: “In any case, it remains to be seen what formula will be chosen for the departure of Héctor Fort, who is under contract until 2029.” That contract length gives Barcelona leverage, even if they are now more open to an exit than before.

The report continues: “Last season, the full-back went on loan to Elche without an option for the club to buy him.” That previous arrangement appears to have informed a revised strategy at Camp Nou, with Sport adding: “FC Barcelona’s sporting management has shifted its approach and now favours transfers that ensure the club retains a significant percentage of both the player’s rights and any future sale.”

For Liverpool, that would likely mean weighing up whether the value in the player offsets any compromises in deal structure. For Everton and Fulham, the same calculation applies, though sporting pathway and expected minutes may differ from club to club.

Liverpool transfer latest points to patient approach

There is logic to Liverpool exploring this market. A younger full-back with two-sided capability can be an efficient addition, especially if the coaching staff believe technical quality and tactical intelligence are already present. What remains less certain is whether this is a deal they would push hard to complete, or simply one option on a wider shortlist.

Héctor Fort has enough about him to attract Premier League interest, and Barcelona’s readiness to negotiate gives the story immediate relevance. Yet the key variables, fee, structure, level of guaranteed minutes and how highly each club rates him internally, will determine whether interest develops into something more concrete.

For now, Liverpool are in the conversation rather than at the front of it. But with Barcelona accelerating decisions and English clubs attentive, this is one to monitor as the window moves on.

Our View

From a Liverpool supporter’s perspective, this feels like one of those links that makes sense without being completely convincing. Héctor Fort looks like a smart profile, young, adaptable and coming through a strong football education at Barcelona, but there is still a difference between an interesting market opportunity and a player ready to help solve a real Premier League problem.

The uncertainty comes from where Liverpool are in their squad build. Under Andoni Iraola, intensity, reliability and athletic sharpness are going to matter a lot. If Fort arrives, he would need time, and supporters may reasonably wonder whether this is the moment for another project signing in defence rather than someone more proven.

At the same time, there is a clear attraction in signing a full-back who can cover both sides and develop behind more senior options. If the price is sensible, and if Barcelona’s demands around future rights are not excessive, there is a case for it. Liverpool cannot ignore depth issues, particularly in the modern game where defenders are asked to play huge minutes across multiple competitions.

So the feeling here is balanced rather than fully sold. It is easy to see why Liverpool would be looking, and easy to see why the player would appeal. Whether he is the right answer depends on the role he is being signed for. As a squad option with upside, it works. As a solution to bigger defensive concerns, doubts would remain.
