NORTH AUGUSTA — Despite jumping out to a five-run lead, the Charleston RiverDogs allowed eight unanswered runs in an 9-6 loss to the Augusta GreenJackets on Aug. 16 at SRP Park.
The RiverDogs (64-50, 26-22 second half) jumped in front early when Jack Lines lined a two-out RBI double to center to make it 1-0.
Later in the frame, Andreimi Antunez blasted a skyscaping three-run homer to left to push the lead to 4-0. The longball marked Antunez’s third since joining Charleston.
In the top of the third, the RiverDogs added another when Dean Moss lifted a solo shot to right to extend the lead to five.
After Augusta (60-52, 24-22) pushed across one in the bottom of the frame, Lines responded in the top of the fourth by belting a solo shot to right to make it 5-1.
Augusta rallied for three runs in the bottom of the fourth to cut the deficit to two before both pitching staffs settled in.
The GreenJackets later tied the game in the seventh after former Clemson star Jacob Jarrell dribbled a two-run double down the right-field line.
With two outs in the eighth, Carter Beck broke the stalemate with a three-run blast to center to cap scoring at 9-6.
