SALEM, Va. (WFXR) -- The Roanoke College football team enters their second season of varsity level football. Thursday morning, the Maroons hit the practice field for the first time this fall to open fall camp. Roanoke last year had a great first season with a winning record of 5-4 overall and 4-4 in the ODAC. With a year under their belts….the Maroons are looking to build on their successful 2025 season. For Roanoke College head football coach Bryan Stinespring, setting the tone right out the gate in practice is the first step. "Well, you see it. They understand it. They understand we have a role, but we're not. I mean, we're here. You want to come through the gate now, 97 of them with your 50 seconds, 97 year old man at work. There's an urgency level about this thing right now. Men and and they understand it. You saw it first. They've been working since the time they ran through the gate. It took him 15 seconds to get going. So they understand it. We got to say, you hear from me already. It's day one. We're ready to go. So we got to press upon. We got to move the needle. We have to be better. And we started it right off the get go. And they started it when they arrived here. So I'm excited. They're excited. Well, we're off to a great start and you should on day one, right? Everybody's jacked up on day one. Now we've got to be able to maintain that throughout the rest of this practice," said Stinespring. The Maroons open up the season on Thursday, September 3rd as they visit Virginia University of Lynchburg! Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
