As the season closes in and fall camp intel continues to pile up, certain players have stepped to centerstage. Justus Terry, Cam Coleman and many others have dominated headlines this month. However, there are other players that might be overshadowed that will play a large role in Texas’ title pursuit. It’s unlikely these players ever get the recognition the stars do, but they still are incredibly important to Texas’ success. Here are the three Longhorns you can’t overlook heading into the season: Texas LonghornsCB Warren Roberson Outside of the “stars” on the team, I’m most excited to see Roberson this season. It’s consistently been reported he’s a favorite of new DC Will Muschamp, because of his elite ability in press coverage. Last season, penalties kept him from taking on a larger role but the ball skills flashed throughout the season. With Kobe Black taking to safety, it seems he will be Bo Mascoe’s backup at field corner. If he can limit the penalties, you could see No. 24 on the field consistently, which would be a major boost to the unit’s depth and versatility.
Warren Roberson may be the most underrated player on the Longhorn roster. One of the best pure athletes on the team and a monster in press coverage. He had an INT in practice last night. pic.twitter.com/H5cozNpmwQ — Evan Vieth (@EvanVieth) August 12, 2026 Texas Longhorns RB Michael Terry III In a running back room that has been rebuilt, one of the holdovers is shining in fall camp. Michael Terry came into Texas as a true “athlete”, with a number of positions being options for him at the next level. Last season, he settled into running back and it seems he could answer some of the physicality questions among the group. Neither Brown nor Smothers are over 200lbs and Derrek Cooper, while larger, is still a young player learning the ropes. I would expect to see No. 11 to play an important role this season, considering the Longhorns struggles in short yardage/redzone situations.
Either Michael Terry had one of his best practices as a Longhorn, or the admin is just a big MTIII guy. However, the depth of the IDL is what makes it special. Maraad Watson is the best example of that depth, considering he was a Freshman All-American in 2024. Despite not playing consistently for Texas a year ago, he flashed when he found the field. I don’t expect Watson to stuff the statsheet this season, but I do expect him to play a major role in the Longhorns run defense.
