Aug. 15—NEW MARKET, Minn. — The Rochester Royals staved off a late comeback to stay alive in the Section 1A tournament with an 8-7 defeat of the New Market Muskies on Friday night in New Market.
The Royals will now take on the winner of New Ulm/Faribault on Saturday. The time and opponent wasn't available as of Friday night.
Logan Milene, Aiden Yochim and Grady Babcock all recorded a pair of hits to lead a Rochester offense that recorded nine hits.
The Royals led 8-3 entering the bottom of the sixth, scoring a run in the second inning, two in the fourth, another in the fifth and four more in the sixth.
Babcock, Logan Milene and Mike Michalak all doubled and scored a run for Rochester.
Aaron Terpstra and Easton Fritcher combined 2 1/3 shutout innings out of the Honkers bullpen.
Thane Meiners was credited with the win. The Caledonia graduate struck out 10 in 6 2/3 innings, allowing seven runs — five earned on the night.
