Well, well, look who cranked up the offense on a sunny Sunday afternoon at Oracle Park in San Francisco? Don't even say it was the San Francisco Giants because they were battered by the Colorado Rockies. That's right. The Rockies put together some big-time hits and a major run explosion in defeating the Giants 13-7 and picking up a series win by San Francisco Bay. There was a back-and-forth tendency between both teams in the early innings. After San Francisco scored a run in the bottom of the first inning, Colorado battled back with four runs in the top of the second inning. Still, the Giants punched back with four runs of their own. Rockies take control in middle innings It wasn't until the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings that Colorado put its stamp on a rubber-game victory, something that hasn't happened too much this season. Kyle Freeland's stellar start on Friday night kickstarted this series in a good way for the Rockies. Second baseman Adael Amador smashed his first home run this season, a three-run blast in the seventh inning. Catcher Brett Sullivan also chipped in a three-run shot in the seventh inning. Mickey Moniak, Amador, and Sullivan totaled three RBIs apiece against San Francisco pitching. Cole Carrigg had two RBIs, and Zac Veen added one RBI, too. All nine Rockies hits were spread out through the Colorado lineup. No batter had multiple hits, yet put together it was a banner day for the hitters. Gabriel Hughes worked four shaky innings for Rockies manager Warren Schaeffer. He gave up eight hits, seven earned runs, walked one, and struck out two. Reliever Nick Frasso worked the fifth inning and ended up getting the win. Frasso is now 1-1 overall. The Rockies' bullpen stood stout against a pretty solid Giants' lineup. Colorado good in RISP category Colorado went 5-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left four total runners on base. San Francisco's Rafael Devers hit his 25th home run this season, yet another three-run homer that came with two outs in the second inning. The Giants also were 5-for-9 with runners in scoring position, but they left eight total runners on base on Sunday. Blade Tidwell got the start for Giants manager Tony Vitello and worked 4.1 innings. He allowed three hits, six earned runs, walked five, and struck out one. Sam Hentges came on in relief, but just could not get the job done for San Francisco. He took the loss and falls to 1-5 overall. The Rockies are now 50-74 overall while the Giants fall to 51-73. These two teams are close now, so Colorado knows it can get a little bit closer in coming games. That challenge, though, gets tough as the Los Angeles Dodgers are coming to Coors Field for a three-game series that starts on Monday.
