Whatever plans the Colorado Rockies had to make before the first game of this three-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Coors Field, they did not pan out. Blake Snell, in just his third start of the 2026 MLB season, worked six innings of two-hit ball as Los Angeles kept the hitting line moving. Shohei Ohtani hit two home runs and the Dodgers simply rolled over the Rockies 11-5. Max Muncy hit a three-run home run in the third inning, his 25th home run this season. Ohtani now has 29 homers this season, too. Sugano didn't deliver Rockies starter Tomoyuki Sugano was looking to make this start in front of the home fans, which were filled with plenty of Dodgers fans, count. Sugano worked five innings, giving up seven hits, seven runs (six earned), walked one, struck out three, and gave up two home runs. Sugano falls to 12-6 this season. The Dodgers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second on Mookie Betts' RBI double. Los Angeles really broke the game open with a four-run third inning. Andy Pages smacked an RBI single to center field, then Muncy took a belt-high pitch from Sugano and didn't miss one inch of it. His three-run blast gave the Dodgers a 5-0 lead at this point. Jake McCarthy's RBI groundout in the bottom of the third got the Rockies on the board, but it was just 5-1 then. Ohtani led off the fifth with his 28th home run, a solo shot. Betts' RBI groundout added another run and Los Angeles now led 7-1.  Bullpen falls short, too Sugano was replaced in the top of the sixth inning by Rockies manager Warren Schaeffer with Juan Mejia. Did he stop the onslaught of runs? Nope, not at all. The Dodgers scored three more runs to really bump up the advantage. What made this inning even more frustrating was that Los Angeles scored all three of its runs here with two outs. Ohtani's 29th home run, a two-run shot, led the scoring for the Dodgers here. Pages added an RBI single, and the score was now 10-1. Brett Sullivan's sacrifice fly scored Connor Nordby and Colorado was still behind at 10-2. Los Angeles brought home its final run on Freddie Freeman's RBI double, getting Ohtani home and that gave the Dodgers an insurmountable 11-2 lead.  The Rockies added three runs in the bottom of the ninth. Edwin Díaz came on in the ninth for Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, potentially giving Díaz an opportunity to work in a low-stress situation and get out of it cleanly. That backfired. Sure, Díaz worked the ninth and closed out the game. Willi Castro singled to center, and TJ Rumfield was hit by a pitch. With one out, Adael Amador brought home Castro with an RBI single. Sullivan singled to center, loading up the bases. Ezequiel Tovar's sacrifice fly added another run.  Rookie sensation Zac Veen doubled to center, scoring Amador and putting the Rockies within 11-5. Jordan Beck then flied out to right and that wrapped up the game. After coming off a promising series win in San Francisco, Colorado returned home and turned out a stinker. The Rockies and Dodgers continue their series with games on Tuesday and Wednesday nights at Coors Field.
