Coming into this three-game series at Oracle Park in San Francisco, the Colorado Rockies had a goal in front of them. It was to get out of last place in the National League West Division. That, though, will not happen now. Logan Webb was really good for the San Francisco Giants on Saturday afternoon, dealing a masterful start as the Giants defeated Colorado 7-1. Lorenzen can't get win Rockies starter Michael Lorenzen needed to go out there and put up some strong numbers in a start for manager Warren Schaeffer and his teammates. Unfortunately, Lorenzen didn't even make it out of the fourth inning. He took the loss and gave up four hits, six earned runs, walked three, struck out one, and gave up a home run. Lorenzen falls to 3-11 and has a 7.08 ERA. It's a bitter pill to swallow after Kyle Freeland's fantastic start on Friday night. Cole Carrigg's RBI single in the top of the third inning provided the Rockies with their lone run on Saturday. For the Giants, Drew Gilbert answered with his sixth homer this season, a solo shot over the right-field wall. That tied things up at 1-1, setting up San Francisco for a big fourth inning that was the deciding factor. Jung Hoo Lee and Osleivis Basabe led off with singles, and Drew Cavanaugh walked for San Francisco off of Lorenzen. Rookie sensation Turner Hill's sacrifice fly drove in Lee and put the Giants up 2-1. Mushinski wasn't sharp, either Buddy Kennedy was hit by a Lorenzen pitch, putting Basabe at third and Cavanaugh at second. Christian Koss grounded into a force out for San Francisco's second out in the inning. Gilbert singled to center field, bringing home Cavanaugh and Kennedy. That boosted the Giants' advantage to 4-1 and knocked Lorenzen out of the game. Parker Mushinski came on in relief at this point. Rafael Devers then hit a ground-rule double down the left-field line and Koss scored, putting San Francisco up 5-1. A Mushinski wild pitch allowed Gilbert to score from third base and the Giants added another run. Bryce Eldridge's single to center field brought Devers home and that wrapped up this game at 7-1. Webb went six innings, giving up four hits, one earned run, didn't walk a batter, and struck out seven. This series by the San Francisco Bay probably meant a lot to the Rockies. They can still get a series win in a Sunday afternoon series finale. Still, not being able to sweep the Giants is something that Colorado will think about for some time to come.
