Barcelona’s move for Rodri is now entering its final stage, with the Manchester City midfielder given authorisation to fly to Catalonia today ahead of completing his transfer.

According to transfer market specialist Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona have already arranged Rodri’s medical, with the Spanish international expected to put pen to paper on a four-year contract running until 2030.

The agreement would see Rodri return to La Liga seven years after leaving Atletico Madrid, completing what could become one of Barcelona’s biggest moves of the 2026 summer transfer window.

Rodri to Barcelona set for final steps

Barcelona and Manchester City have accelerated negotiations in recent days after Rodri made his intention to leave clear to the Etihad Stadium hierarchy.

The midfielder had already reached an agreement with Barcelona two weeks ago, leaving the two clubs to settle on the financial structure of the deal.

Romano reports that Barcelona will pay €60 million as a fixed fee, along with €6 million in easily achievable add-ons and a further €10 million in more difficult bonuses.

David Ornstein, meanwhile, reports that the overall agreement could reach €76.5 million.

The fixed €60 million fee is supplemented by more than €11 million in bonuses considered highly achievable, meaning Manchester City can realistically expect to receive at least €71.5 million for the Spain captain.

That is a significant package for City, particularly with Rodri entering the final 12 months of his contract.

Barcelona planning Rodri presentation before La Liga opener

If the remaining paperwork is completed without delays, Barcelona are confident that Rodri could be officially presented as early as Wednesday.

The club is targeting the Joan Gamper Trophy for his unveiling, with Barcelona set to face Egyptian side Al Ahly at Spotify Camp Nou.

The timing would also give the midfielder several days to settle before Barcelona begin their La Liga campaign against Elche on Sunday, August 23.

Meanwhile, Rodri would become Barcelona’s fourth major signing of the 2026-27 season.

The Blaugrana have already brought in Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United, Karim Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund and Jesse Bisiwu from Club Brugge.

Joao Cancelo is also set to join the club in the coming days, underlining Barcelona’s aggressive approach to rebuilding the squad.
