Five former soccer, softball, swimming, track and field, and tennis notables comprise the Rose-Hulman Athletic Hall of Fame’s Class of 2026, announced Monday by the eastside engineering college. The group includes four former Engineer athletes. They are Lucinda Combs, a 2016 graduate in women’s soccer; Ashley Montgomery Getz, a 2008 grad in softball; Orion Martin, a 2016 grad in men’s swimming; and Blake Schulthies, a 2015 grad in track and field. Also selected for induction is Dan Hopkins, Rose’s former head coach of men’s and women’s tennis. The Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 29 in the Mussallem Union. The inductees will also be honored at Rose’s Hall of Fame basketball game on Saturday, Jan. 30. Rose-Hulman Hall of Fame 2026 inductees • Lucinda Combs, chemical engineering (2016), women’s soccer — Four-time NSCAA All-Region honoree; four-time first team All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference; considered top goalkeeper in Rose-Hulman history; two-time HCAC Defensive Player of the Year; ranked in the national top five in save percentage as a sophomore and a junior; HCAC Freshman of the Year in 2012; NSCAA Scholar All-American in 2014; RHIT record holder with 40 wins, 464 saves, and a 0.78 goals-against average; RHIT record holder for career save percentage (.885) and shutouts (36); RHIT single-season school record holder with 11 shutouts. • Ashley (Montgomery) Getz, chemical engineering (2008), softball — Two-time NFCA All-Region, earning first team in 2006 and third team in 2008; only two-time All-Region honoree in RHIT softball program history; second team Academic All-American in 2008; only Academic All-American in RHIT softball program history; first team CoSIDA Academic All-District in 2008; three-time Academic All-Conference; career school record holder for runs scored (103) and stolen bases (37); ranks 3rd in school history with 149 hits; at the time of graduation, stood fourth in school history in RBIs (58) and assists (241); first-team all-HCAC selection in 2008; starter for the 2008 HCAC Regular Season Championship team. • Orion Martin, physics and computer science (2016), men’s swimming — Four-time national qualifier from 2013-2016; three-time All-American in 100-yard butterfly in 2014 (7th), 2015 (6th), 2016 (6th); Ruel Fox Burns Blanket Award winner 2016; two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American in 2015 (third team) and 2016 (first team); four-time CSCAA First Team Scholar All-American in 100-yard butterfly 2013-2016; four-time CCIW Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Year 2013-2016; CCIW Swimmer of the Meet in 2015; five-time individual champion in the 100-yard butterfly (4 times), 100-yard freestyle (1 time); CCIW record holder in the 100-yard freestyle (45.32 in 2015) and 100-yard butterfly (47.92 in 2015); 2016 NCAA Post Graduate Scholarship winner; RHIT school record holder in 100-yard butterfly (47.92) and 200-yard butterfly (1:47.73); RHIT ranks secnd in 100-yard freestyle (44.92) and 200-yard freestyle (1:39.70); RHIT ranks fifth in 50 freestyle (20.76). • Blake Schulthies, electrical engineering (2015) men’s track and field — Seventh-place finish in decathlon at 2015 NCAA DIII Nationals; All-American in decathlon in 2015; won the 400-meter dash (49.25) and pole vault (14 feet, 9 inches) during the decathlon at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in 2015; one of two Rose-Hulman athletes to earn All-American in the decathlon; member of four HCAC Outdoor Championship teams and four HCAC Indoor Championship teams from 2012 to 2015; HCAC individual champion in the outdoor pole vault and outdoor 400 hurdles in 2015; member of the HCAC champion 4x400-meter relay team in 2012; school record holder in indoor heptathlon (Ohio Northern, 2015, 4,741); ranks second in school record book in outdoor decathlon (2015, 6,756); ranks second in school record book as member of the outdoor 4x400-meter relay (2012, 3:17.58); ranks fifth in school record book in outdoor 100-meter dash (Ohio Wesleyan, 2015, 10.92). • Dan Hopkins, head men’s and women’s tennis coach (1988-2019) — Most coaches’ wins in program history for men and women; men’s record of 311-279 during 31 seasons; women’s record of 154-130 during 17 seasons; men’s team won HCAC regular season championship in six seasons, including 2011, and 2015-2019; men’s team won HCAC Tournament championships in five seasons, including 2015-2019; led men’s team to its first-ever victory in the NCAA Tournament against Wheaton in 2017; led men’s team to second NCAA Tournament win against Illinois Tech in 2019; women’s team won HCAC Regular Season Championship in 2010 and 2011; women’s team won HCAC Tournament championship in 2010 and 2016; women made two appearances to NCAA Tournament in 2010 and 2016; named to the United States Professional Tennis Association Midwest Division Hall of Fame in 2020; named to the Indiana High School Tennis Hall of Fame in 1998; USPTA Professional of the Year in 1991; earned national community service awards from the United States Tennis Association in 1990 and the Intercollegiate Tennis Association in 1999; named USTA All-American Coach for tennis programming in Terre Haute and Indiana in 2002; made countless generous donations to Rose-Hulman Athletics and the tennis programs; donated funds to purchase live streaming equipment to provide live video of matches; founding member of the Terre Haute Junior Tennis Association in 1986 and former tournament director.
