As Fall Camp continues for the Tulane Green Wave, a few position groups are standing out above the rest.

The running backs room has been arguably the strongest of the preseason so far, despite the fact that standout sophomore rusher Jamauri McClure suffered an alleged foot injury and will possibly miss the season opener against the Duke Blue Devils.

Even without McClure, the unit continues to serve as the driving force of an offense that has quite a few fresh faces. The group is absolutely loaded with talent, including a pair of Power 4 transfers in

Maurice Turner could reemerge as a starter. Though he had an impressive start to his 2025 campaign, it was short-lived: he suffered an injury in the very first game against the Northwestern Wildcats, and saw limited action through the rest of the year. While McClure certainly earned a shot at the position after his own end to the 2025 season, it won't be surprising to see the two rushers splitting carries early on.

On top of this, the team boasts a trio of incoming Power 4 transfers: Johnnie Daniels of the Mississippi State Bulldogs and former Oklahoma State Cowboy DJ Dugar, as well as Florida State Seminoles transfer Jaylin Lucas, who might play a more prominent role as a return specialist.

So, McClure might be sidelined for a bit... but that shouldn't slow the team down too much.

On the other side of the ball, the argument could be made that the Green Wave's defensive backs have shown out a bit more than expected.

The obvious strength at defensive back is safety Jack Tchienchou, who has received countless preseason accolades at this point. However, the true downfield threats at cornerback have looked impressive through the opening weeks of the preseason.

Take Anthony Rogers, for example. The redshirt sophomore, who started his career with the Nicholls State Colonels, garnered some attention when he signed with the Olive Green and Sky Blue, but he is seemingly exceeding expectations at camp. Macho Stevenson is making a name for himself, and Joshua Moore could take a big step forward in 2026. On top of this, the spear position is in great hands, with Kajuan Banks seemingly taking the lead and TJ Smith giving him a run for his money.

All of these are great signs as Tulane enters its first season under head coach Will Hall. There are still some question marks surrounding the program, but all in all, the team could be in better shape than many expected heading into the year.

The Green Wave will look to start the year with a massive win as it hits the road to take on the Duke Blue Devils on September 5th.
